Places of the Heart

Art by helldivo at DeviantArt

A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.
~George Moore

Emptiness has a way of holding a heavy weight within the places of the heart

Like a sinker on a fishing lure

Taking broken men down broken roads

Where all the paved highways lead to every gravel path

It is there that they seek some kind of shelter

but loneliness rips through every room like fire

leaving behind only the silence of rubble in its wake

we lose ourselves in many ways

trying to hold up bridges that are not ours to cross

forgetting where we came from

we head to the same place that took our father so far away

lost is a place that cannot be found on any map

we stumble upon it blindly with empty hands

for all the mapped directions that lead to somewhere else

have long since been left in drawers full of other things we never needed

I searched for you in the eyes of others

Wanting to never lose the memory of your smile

It was in that place of longing

Where loss plants the deepest roots

And no matter how high up the tree you climb

It is hard to see beyond that place

It took me years to discover that simple truth

Trying to find my way to you

I lost my own direction

Until I realized

You were already there

In the reflection of my own eyes.

Trying to Hold the Moon

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 120
Come join us!

To eat an egg, you must break the shell. ~Jamaican Proverb

I was standing on the quick sand of time

Bracing my love on banisters of doubt

Falling between your world and mine

I was unseen like coins in the couch

The secrets held in the reflection of my eyes

Were the moon I longed to give to you

It was close as a lover’s deepest sigh

Yet as far as an elk deep in the brush at noon

For you looked but never truly touched

Afraid of being hurt by the lover that is scorned

You remained distant like a hunter in the brush

And when you missed the mark you only mourned

I am doing a little something different here.  I could not decide where to end this poem.  So you can tell me what you think.  Here is more that I wrote that I decided later not to add.  You be the judge:

Risk is a high stakes gamble where one can lose

And in the search for love can be the same

I stood at the casino table and had to choose

But you cannot bet on hearts with only spades

I was the gambler putting it all out there

And you were the hunter on the make

Sometimes we cannot find the answer

When there is nothing left to save.

A Beautiful Connection

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

~Mother Teresa

We are connected each heart and every soul
From strangers in passing to dear friends that we know
Stardust and molecules sweat and true tears
We all know yearning and we all learn fear
Grief and sickness touches us who live and breathe
No matter the status no matter our creed
We all hold love be it mighty or weak
We want to be valued and be heard when we speak
We are mirror reflections through heaven’s clear view
may our eyes learn to see the connection between me and you.
