The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists. ~Japanese proverb

We find our groove in the throes of movement

In the beat and the pulse and the dance

Life is messy in the making

Progress always has a price

Dirty hands and broken bones

All the things that make us fall and get back up

A beautiful vessel built by grace and strength

moving us forward

For curves are always around the corner

ones that throw us off the path

so we need our strength to

find our way back

for life is a journey full of maneuvering

and too much stillness makes for stiff knees anyway.

Dear Grandmother

My debt to you, Belovèd,
Is one I cannot pay
In any coin of any realm
On any reckoning day...
~Jessie B. Rittenhouse

It was freedom to know you

like sky is to land

you were someone else’s garden

but still flowers within my hand

to hear your voice was bird’s song

 whispered among the trees

the echo of true moonlight

that lit the path before my feet

there is a might in yearning

that carries stars to distant lands

makes men sail across oceans

where a boy becomes a man

a woman can bear more things

than children from within her hips

she carries and nests the home of generations

from callused knees and prayers on lips

It was freedom to know you

like open cages are to wings

you let me find my voice

and then taught me how to sing.

The Fabric of Hope

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 123 brought to us by the utterly amazing talent Chrissa!
Also I am happy to be participating this time for the Flash 55 over at Verse Escape, hosted by the absolutely stunningly talented Joy!
Come join us everyone!

In the distance are the multitudes

Each blemished with their own scars from yesterday

Yet burned by the same light that kept them looking up

Hope is powerful

It hems together the same fabric once torn by heartache

We all hold it within our breast like a blanket

 Some keep holding on

  others let go.

Note: I guess today I am offering a bit of a sad poem.  I  tend to veer away from such realities, but I guess the sad news is, they are realities.  Having had a mother that suffered from addiction, and depression due to by-polar disorder, I saw this at a very young age.  Tomorrow will be the anniversary of the day my mother passed away back in 1972.  I spent many years holding a deep anger over i t.  Then when I became a mother, I truly grieved.  Now, I cherish the thought of her, and hope to be all the beautiful things that she truly was in this life.

What the Future Holds

come join us!

It is said that the present is pregnant with the future.  ~Voltaire

I have been lost on this journey more times than I could count
Wandering aimlessly hoping certainty will be found
I hope it is up ahead, just passed the next closest ridge
But I cautiously stay where I am trying to see it from this bridge
What is ahead?  I ask myself again and again
Hoping for no heartache wanting time to be my friend
But life provides no assurance that loss will not come my way
And certainty is a mirage that never truly shows its face
Now another year is over, and another will come to call
And I look into the future like a gypsy and a crystal ball
Maybe I need a compass to direct me to northern skies
And remind me it is now that should fill my wandering eyes
For yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is beyond my grasp

So may I learn to focus on the now, and abundantly live the life I have.
