Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 121 Hosted by the amazing and immensely talented poet Shay!
Come join us!
I was once a corn field in Virginia
I reached across the horizon
stretching wide like arms of a lover
the wind and I danced every chance we got
my heart was so full like a rain bucket in Seattle
overflowing with the promise of growth
I did not know of the harvest in October
and the journey that lied ahead
or how what cuts us
leaves a mark we carry with us
for I was cradled in hope
and though life has taken me further
from where I started
I still feel the warmth hope has
nurturing others with all that I have
there has been a bounty
that has returned to me
sure like a bird in flight
love’s provision for me
to hold
the giving and the taking
are braided like a basket of food
I give it to you my love
and in the hunger of taking
that is your greatest gift to me.
I have to say Carrie, you have knocked my socks off with this one, imo one of the best of yours I've read. And not only does every image shine, but that hope comes right through the words and into the heart. This is a wonderful piece. It makes me remember places and corners in myself I have allowed to become neglected, and what I might find to help me there. I especially love the way you transition from the sunny beginning, to a more realistic tone and then finally back to a glowing resolution, and those stunning closing lines. Thanks for this. It is very welcome.

ReplyDeleteOh you luscious Granola Bar, my dear. Little did I realize the tribulations you've endured. I am glad you had a happy childhood until the cutting.
Good write, Carrie.
..
"hunger of taking / that is your greatest gift to me." - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe warmth was sure and certain in this! Loved the image of the braided baskets, with hope and love passed along with the experience of the days.
ReplyDeleteOh hope, you are fickle where I am. Beautiful writing...One of my favorites from you!
ReplyDeleteThe giving and taking are braided as they are stronger together. It is good to still feel the warmth of hope in others and in oneself. This one is deep. Happy Sunday
ReplyDeleteThis was timely for me tonight. Wonderful writing, my friend.
ReplyDeleteA lovely testimony, Carrie ... lovely.
ReplyDelete"The giving and the taking braided" ...such a microcosm of life! The cut marks, perhaps, hone us to better nurture others, and their receiving , indeed, is a gift to us. Such a beautiful write, Carrie!
ReplyDeleteYes, my favourite of yours, Carrie........I loved "like a rain bucket in Seattle".....being cradled in hope, and the braiding of the giving and taking with loved ones. Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLuv the way the braided basket is given and received. The transaction is just perfect and well balanced.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
Stay safe
