The Things We Give Insignificance,

Linking with the Sunday Muse for Muse # 117 hosted by the out of this world talented Shay!

It’s a crazy world we live on
where what seems big is truly small
and the things we give insignificance
are truly bigger after all
the skyscraper that cost billions
can crumble to the ground
and the meal we did not give a homeless man
could have been the one that turned his life around
the corner suite where the biggest deals are made
is the one where souls are sold
and what was lost is greater than the gain.
the ally cat you passed by not giving a second thought
is the one that could comfort the elderly
giving companionship they had lost
we explore toward the stars to gain something more
but in the struggle to attain progress
so much that matters is ignored
for it’s a crazy world we live on
where what seems big is truly small
and the things we give insignificance
are truly bigger after all.

  2. So well observed, my friend. Corner office, who cares?! The meal or the kitty mean more.

It is a selfish world. Big corporations play their hand

  5. It is definitely a crazy world we live in. There are so many important things in our midst that we do not see. We may not, as individuals, be able to change the world right now, but we can (if we try) make it a better world for those in our midst. A thought-provoking poem.

  6. Love this. Each verse seems to be tugging at your shoulder, turn around, look at this.

  7. So true, Carrie, every world. I especially liked the title, and your use of contrasts, and this :
" the corner suite where the biggest deals are made/is the one where souls are sold.."

  8. Lovely poem. The line about the homeless person left me especially sad, though the entire poem made me consider the absurdities of this world, our values and how often we make wrong choices.

  9. So many choices and possibilities, and we can be counted on to take the wrong road.
Wonderful! I love the beginning repeated at the end.

  10. This tugged at my heart. Look, this poem is saying. Look at the insignificant things that are so very important. Beautiful Carrie. Makes me glad I carry spare food in my pockets for the hungry ones that beg for live.

  11. Dear Carrie .... one of your finest poems. Phrasing, word choice, message, the pure truth of it.
    Brava.

  12. Your poem is filled with nuggets of truth. Today's world seems more concerned with what we have not who we are. The "corner office" portrayal is so true! Standing ovation for this one.
