One may understand the cosmos, but never the ego; the self is more distant than any star.
 ~G.K. Chesterton

There is a distant land where there have been many wars
some lasted years with no blood shed
but still many casualties
others were brief like cut carnations
on a hot July afternoon
new places have erected in its midst
ones of love that are
bigger than skyscrapers
others are forgotten
but they still stand
and around some corners
there is an unrest
a fear that rises
but there is also a hope
that prevails it
regret has been named there
but it has no built monument
for every conflict and mistake
has planted all the beautiful gardens
that surround the inner city
my prayer is that there will be
a lust for change
a longing for something
greater
a higher power
the ego is a lonely place
when it stands truly alone
it was meant for more
it is a church with stained glass windows
and
that is no place
for empty pews.
