Kissing the Ocean

"She loves the serene brutality of the ocean, loves the electric power she felt with each breath of wet  briny air."  ~ Holly Black

If I was an element I would not choose to be water
Flowing deep into the widest of seas
I would rather be air
Floating above it and all around
Close like a lover
Kissing the ocean
With every breath I take.

  1. First, I love that quote. I might have to steal (I mean, borrow) the phrase "serene brutality" from Ms. Black one of these days *grins*.

Your poem filled my head with vivid images... I see a being made of cloud and storms and gentle breezes leaning down to kiss the ocean when she wants to, and flying back to her sky domain when she doesn't. Always her choice.

  4. ...kissing the ocean. I prefer to tread lightly - not traverse too deeply into the ocean. But oh, I do so love spending time beside her... Lovely sentiment in this poem.

  5. There are times when we are too much water, maybe? A lovely meditation on being near something without becoming it.
